When All is Said and Done

Carol Clegg-Lamptey

This almost didn’t happen.
Was in low spirits yesterday.
Thank God for friends.

God still speaks.
He gave me this title and I was surprised. I had thought I wouldn’t hear from Him.
But isn’t that just like our God.

When all is said and done.

What does this statement mean??

According to the online Cambridge dictionary, this phrase is said
when you are about to tell someone the most important fact they should remember in a situation.

When I think of this and life, the verses that come to mind are from Ecclesiastes 12.

Ecclesiastes 12:1-14 NIV

Remember your Creator
in the days of your youth,
before the days of trouble come
and the years approach when you will say,
“I find no pleasure in them”—

2 before the sun and the light
and the moon and the stars grow dark,
and the clouds return after the rain;

3 when the keepers of the house tremble,
and the strong men stoop,
when the grinders cease because they are few,
and those looking through the windows grow dim;

4 when the doors to the street are closed
and the sound of grinding fades;
when people rise up at the sound of birds,
but all their songs grow faint;

5 when people are afraid of heights
and of dangers in the streets;
when the almond tree blossoms
and the grasshopper drags itself along
and desire no longer is stirred.
Then people go to their eternal home
and mourners go about the streets.

6 Remember him—before the silver cord is severed,
and the golden bowl is broken;
before the pitcher is shattered at the spring,
and the wheel broken at the well,

7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from,
and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

8 “Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher.
“Everything is meaningless! ”

The Conclusion of the Matter
9 Not only was the Teacher wise, but he also imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs.

10 The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true.

11 The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails—given by one shepherd. 12 Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them.
Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body.

13 Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the duty of all mankind.

14 For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.

Verses 9-14 hold the conclusion of the matter.
The preceding verses are so poetic I had to add them.
They speak of age and the various parts of the body that begin failing as we age – our teeth, vision, hearing , arms , legs, among others.

So, what is driving you day after day. What or who are you living for?
Are you striving for riches , that big car or house,..what at all?
When it comes down to it,..all these strivings according to the wisest man – Solomon,..is meaningless,..a chasing after the wind.
This man had riches, women,.. wisdom and this was his conclusion.

So by all means,..work hard,..but let God be central to all you do and He shall daily direct you.

Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT –
Trust in the LORD with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.

Because truthfully,..when you achieve a certain feat,..the happiness is great,..then the question,
what next??

I remember one year,..my aim was to sudy and pass an exam,..and I had planned to chill,..watch movies,..rest, when it was over.

Ladies and gentlemen, you wouldn’t believe it,..I actually felt bored and purposeless after a few days.

At that juncture I learnt that a life without purpose is a very sad life.

What does the Bible say – Fear God, and keep His commandments,..remember Him in your youth,..commit all your ways to Him.

Now that is my purpose.
That my life would glorify Him as He daily orders my steps.

So my dear friend,..don’t hold on to anything or anyone too tightly.
We are stewards of all that we have.
We came to this life with nothing, we leave with nothing.
That house,..that car,….all that money would not be buried with you.
You shall leave it behind and the good Lord shall call you , yes you and me to account.
Our work shall be tested by fire.

1 Corinthians 3:13-15 NLT
But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.
14 If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward.

15 But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.

So, what or who are you living for?
It better be God.
A life without God and without Jesus as one’s Saviour is a meaningless live,..its like a television not plugged into the wall (no power)

God looks not just at our actions,..but more importantly our motives.
Na waaaa oh!!!!

Ponder on these things.

But always remember,..
God dey!
He dey paaaaaaaa!!!!!
