None of Self and All of Thee

Carol Clegg-Lamptey

I remember this hymn from my days in primary school. We used to sing it during mass. This hymn among many others struck a chord with me.

Why?

It describes our progression as believers.

We start off as being full of ourselves and as we grow in the Lord, our desires change.

I’m certainly not the person I used to be and I say this to God’s glory and His glory alone. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

As it is written

Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Salvation is a free gift and we become God’s workmanship.

What is workmanship??
Putting things together I understand it as doing good works (led by the Holy Spirit) which ultimately bring honor and glory to the One who creates, redeems, provides, and sanctifies us with His unchanging love.

So we start off full of ourselves and as we yield to God and His ways,..He transforms us.
To some of self, some of Him.
Then less of self and more of Him.
Then the final stage which I pray we all get to is none of self and alll of Him. (Simply amazing!!!! 💃💃💃)

Read and meditate on the words of this hymn.
May the Lord Himself speak to you.

1. Oh, the bitter shame and sorrow,
That a time could ever be,
When I let the Savior’s pity
Plead in vain, and proudly answered,
All of self, and none of Thee,

2. Yet He found me; I beheld Him
Bleeding on the cursed tree;
Heard Him pray, Forgive them, Father,
And my wistful heart said faintly,
Some of self, and some of Thee,

3. Day by day His tender mercy,
Healing, helping, full and free,
Sweet and strong, and ah! so patient,
Brought me lower while I whispered,
Less of self, and more of Thee,

4. Higher than the highest heavens,
Deeper than the deepest sea,
Lord, Thy love at last hath conquered;
Grant me now my heart’s petition,
None of self, and all of Thee,

This final stage is that of total surrender to God.

We allow Him to have His way in our lives and choose to obey no matter the cost
Wow!

What stage are you in your Christian life??

God dey paaaaa!!!
