Lift Up Your Eyes

Carol Clegg-Lamptey

What do you do when you’re feeling low?

Some eat, some drink, some smoke, some go out, some chat with friends; an endless list of choices.

Guess what I do?

Obviously,..I pray and all,.. but key for me is to listen to music – gospel music.

It encourages me. The songs are my prayer, a profession of God’s Word in my situation. I cannot sit still; it is an expressive session between myself and my God.

These songs put my focus on God; cause me to fix my eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of my faith.

So can you imagine, that when I got depressed, I stopped singing; stopped listening to music — danger zone. I shudder to remember those days – they were dark, very dark.

As much as I love music, there are some songs which are what I can call my core songs.
When I sense that I’m sinking fast, I quickly go to them.
Let me list them – in no particular order;
1. Firm foundation
2. Hold us together
3. Same God
4. Faithful now
5. Battle Belongs
6. My God is all I need
7. Prayer answering God

It is not a joke!

Our response to the valleys of our lives is key.
For just as there are mountains, there are certainly valleys.

BUT GOD!!!!

Psalm 42:8-11 NIV

By day the LORD directs his love,
at night his song is with me—
a prayer to the God of my life.

9 I say to God my Rock,
“Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I go about mourning,
oppressed by the enemy?”

10 My bones suffer mortal agony
as my foes taunt me,
saying to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”

11 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

Put your hope in God.
Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith.
Pray!

And in all these things..do not sin.

God dey!!
So we too we dey!

I’d love to hear back from you.
