This topic was inspired by three things: the Holy Spirit (obviously 😄), a song , and yesterday’s sermon in church (meaning I listened! 😜)
These were some key lessons from the sermon for me. 😊🙏🏾
– There were three main marks of the first church (the first church after the Day of Pentecost) – devotion to the Lord, devotion to the Lord’s people and devotion to the work of the Lord.
Acts 2:42 NIV – They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
– Devotion to the Lord involves devotion to the teaching of God’s Word, which at that time was the teaching of the apostles. In present day, it must be based on the Word of God and thus, sound doctrine; not simply based on emotional experiences and feelings or “ my pastor says” 👀. It’s great that your pastor says something,..but it must have a Scriptural basis, which we can only know if we devote ourselves to daily study of the Word of God.
2 Timothy 2:15 NIV – Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
– Devotion to the Lord involves devotion to corporate worship. Worship is far more than the 30 minutes or so we do on Sundays. Worship must be our lifestyles as believers.
– Worship is attributing reverent honour and homage to God.
– How did the first church do this?
Acts 2:46-47 NIV – Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Now we put the lens on ourselves in our everyday lives. How can we daily worship God?
We need a heart of worship. 😊
We need to be the same from Monday to Sunday.
We must have a spiritual ministry where we work. What impact are you making at work?
Do you take and receive bribes? Do you treat people with care? Do you help others?
We can preach through our relationships and how we relate to others, without even saying a word.
How would people react to you if you wore a clerical collar to work or anywhere you are well known?
Would they laugh and joke, or nod their heads in agreement. 🤔 This question was posed some weeks ago and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. 😃
We are the salt and light of the earth. Matthew 5:13-16
Romans 12:1 NIV – Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
May we daily offer God our worship. He is more than worthy of it all. May the glory be His now and forevermore. Amen!
God bless you!
