This question!
I’m certainly not the first to ask it and I certainly won’t be the last 😃.
Even Jesus asked His disciples a similar question.
Mark 8:27-29 NIV –
Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”
28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.”
29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.”
If I were to answer this question thoroughly, it would be a whole essay or maybe even a book 😅.
Recall that God is three persons in one, so there is a whole lot to say; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We can answer this question based on what the Word of God says about Him and what we have experienced of God in our own lives.
His attributes are clear.
When we move through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, there is whole lot we read about this our God.
God is all powerful- Jeremiah 32:17
God is Sovereign – Daniel 4:35
God is Holy and Just – Isaiah 46: 9-10
God is Love – Romans 8:35, 37-39
God is Merciful – Psalm 145:8
It is worth noting that God sets His attributes, not us.
GOD IS WHO HE IS, not as we try to mound Him into being.
“To claim to worship the God of the Bible while we worship our own version of God is a dangerous form of idolatry.“ This is taken from the book Flee, Stand, Pursue written by my own father. 😃
In Genesis, God is Creator, to Adam and Eve, He was a caring God. Imagine, that they had disobeyed Him and sinned and yet, He clothed their nakedness!
David, who is said to have been a man after God’s own heart called Him – My God.
God is personal and He must be personal to us for us to have a relationship with Him. That’s what the Christian faith involves: a walk with God after acceptance of the fact that we have sinned, we need a Saviour, God is love and sent His Son as the perfect sacrifice once and for all. Once we accept Christ as our Lord and personal Saviour, we are saved, and we journey with Him throughout our lives. The story of the Pilgrim’s Progress comes to mind. It so beautifully illustrates our walk with God and the various snares we may face on the way. BUT GOD! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
God is my everything! The words of “ My God is all I need/ My God is so big” by CtyAlight sum it up for me:
He is my strength, when I cannot go on
Peace, when all my power is gone
Hope, although the night is long and deep
He is my song, for He has rescued me
Joy, now He has set me free
Praise! Praise to my Father be
My God is all I need.
Who is God to you??
God bless you!
