THE DANCE OF MARRIAGE

Carol Clegg-Lamptey

It’s funny that marriage is one of those institutions where you get a certificate at the very beginning of the course- this is often said at many a wedding. It’s ironic isn’t it?
A course that is to be life-long, till death do you part. Sadly there is an upsurge in separations these days.
What is going wrong??

Many things are going wrong.
It appears many enter marriage unprepared, with high expectations, with their hearts and not their minds , with their eyes closed, having ignored glaring red flags and worst of all without Gods who created marriage in the first place!
Hmmmmm.

Marriage is like a dance between two people.
Why?
Like dance, marriage I found online is a humbling experience. While a beauty, harmonious marriage is certainly possible, we learn it takes continual concerted effort, intention, and commitment over time.
I love the word “intention”.

What does the Good Book say??

Ephesians 5:21-28 NIV –  Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,
27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

That’s the formula right there and one of my favourite verses which says that a cord of three strands is not easily broken – both parties must individually and jointly have a relationship with God.
It is God who will keep a man or woman faithful in marriage. As for temptation, it shall surely come, BUT GOD!

Remember Joseph and Potiphar’s wife? What did Joseph say to her before he fled??
“…….How then can I do such a wicked thing and sin against God.”
👀👀
It’s not about how good or beautiful your partner is,..it’s about your fear for God and not wanting to sin against Him.

I pray that as couples continue to marry and be given in marriage, they fully prepare for this institution. It sure is an interesting one. It reveals many things one may have not known about themself and the need to work on you as God works on your partner. Egobe!

Amen and amen.
